From a pink march to Carnival and football, it is a full weekend in Miami Gardens.

Columbus Day weekend is one of the busiest of the year in Miami Gardens. Carnival kicks off right here on Friday, two big community events fill Saturday morning, and the Dolphins are home on Sunday. Here is everything happening in and around the city, day by day.

Weekend at a glance

Friday: Citrus Miami Carnival at The Orchard, plus Friday night high school football. Saturday: Parading for Pink and Purple, the We Are Miami Gardens PD Kickball Tournament, and J'ouvert in Lauderhill. Sunday: Bengals vs. Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium and the Carnival parade in Lauderhill.

Friday, October 9

Citrus Miami Carnival

1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex (The Orchard), 3000 NW 199th Street. Carnival Friday starts in Miami Gardens with this all-inclusive daytime fete, with premium drinks and an unlimited buffet included. Tickets have been sold in advance through the organizer. Our Carnival weekend guide has the full rundown.

Friday night football

Carol City hosts rival Miami Northwestern at 7:30 p.m., Norland travels to American Heritage for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff, and Monsignor Pace visits Booker T. Washington at 7:30 p.m. Read our Week 8 preview.

Saturday, October 10

Parading for Pink and Purple

8:00 a.m., Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex. Start your Saturday with a community march supporting breast cancer and lupus awareness. The event is free, but registration is through Eventbrite and spots were almost gone as of this week, so sign up now if you want to join. Wear pink or purple and bring water.

We Are Miami Gardens PD Kickball Tournament

The Miami Gardens Police Department is hosting a community kickball tournament on Saturday. It is a chance to see neighbors and officers on the same field. Check the City of Miami Gardens calendar for the time and location.

J'ouvert in Lauderhill

7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium. Carnival's paint-and-powder morning party is the main event in Broward on Saturday. Wear clothes you won't mind ruining.

A pink march in the morning, Carnival all weekend, and the Dolphins on Sunday. Miami Gardens doesn't do quiet weekends.

Sunday, October 11

Bengals vs. Dolphins

1:00 p.m., Hard Rock Stadium. The 0-4 Dolphins host the 2-2 Bengals, still looking for their first win. Parking opens at 9:00 a.m. and must be bought in advance. See our game day guide.

Miami Broward Carnival Parade and Fete

Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium, Lauderhill. More than 16 masquerade bands parade in full costume, followed by a concert and a Caribbean food village. With the Dolphins at home the same day, leave early and give yourself extra time on Florida's Turnpike and I-95.

Monday, October 12: Columbus Day

Monday is Columbus Day, so some offices and schools may be closed. Check with your employer or school, and confirm City of Miami Gardens office hours before heading in.

Weekend tips

Sunday is the day to plan around. Between the Dolphins and the Carnival parade, roads around the stadium and the highways heading north will be busy from mid-morning into the evening. If you can, run errands on Saturday afternoon. And with highs still near the upper 80s, drink plenty of water at every outdoor event.

Coming up next week

Next Saturday, October 17, the Canes host Florida State at Hard Rock Stadium at 7:00 p.m., and the city's Laugh It Off comedy show runs that evening at Betty T. Ferguson. Read our FSU vs. Miami guide and our roundup of city programs this October.
