Friday Night Football in Miami Gardens: Week 7 Scores and Recap
By MiamiGardens.com Editorial • Updated • 4 min read
Friday nights in Miami Gardens belong to Carol City, Norland, and Monsignor Pace.
It was a tough Friday night for two of Miami Gardens' three programs. Carol City came within a point of a big road win in Georgia, Norland nearly erased a 21-point deficit at home, and Monsignor Pace delivered the night's statement win. Here is how Week 7 played out.
Grayson (Ga.) 10, Carol City 9. True North Classical 38, Norland 31. Monsignor Pace 47, Somerset Prep 0.
Grayson 10, Carol City 9
Carol City went to Georgia to face Grayson, a nationally known program, and came up one point short. Both teams had been scoring at will all season, but this one turned into a defensive battle. Grayson led 10-0 at halftime before the Chiefs came back with a touchdown and a field goal in the third quarter.
The kicking game made the difference. Carol City missed a field goal in the second quarter, missed the extra point after its touchdown, and missed another field goal early in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs got one last chance from their own 38-yard line with 12 seconds left, but a deep pass on the final play fell incomplete.
The loss ended a three-game winning streak, and it came against a team that has played one of Georgia's toughest schedules. Led by Miami Hurricanes commit Nick Lennear, Carol City showed it can play with anyone, and the defense held a high-powered offense to its lowest scoring output of the season.
True North Classical 38, Norland 31
Norland fell behind 31-10 by the end of the third quarter and then nearly pulled off a comeback, cutting the deficit to a touchdown before running out of time. True North scored its most points of the season in the win. The loss drops the Vikings to 3-3, and the road doesn't get easier: they visit American Heritage next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Monsignor Pace 47, Somerset Prep 0
Pace took care of business at home with a 47-0 shutout of Somerset Prep. It was the Spartans' most dominant performance of the season and a big boost as they push toward the local top 20.
