This Weekend in Miami Gardens: Juneteenth, Father's Day, USA vs Australia, and a World Cup Match at Hard Rock

Summer weekend celebration in Miami Gardens with Juneteenth, Father's Day, and a World Cup match all happening

Juneteenth Thursday. USA plays Friday. Father's Day Sunday. And a World Cup match at Hard Rock the same afternoon. This is a loaded weekend.

If there was ever a weekend that captured everything happening in Miami Gardens right now, it's this one. Juneteenth falls on Thursday. The U.S. men's national team plays Friday. It's Father's Day on Sunday. And that same Sunday afternoon, the second World Cup match at Hard Rock Stadium kicks off. Culture, country, family, and football, all in 72 hours. Here's your guide to all of it.

Thursday, June 19: Juneteenth

Juneteenth

Thursday, June 19 · Federal holiday

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced the end of slavery, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. For Miami Gardens, the largest predominantly Black city in Florida, this holiday carries particular weight.

The city's Juneteenth Experience kicked off earlier this month with the Fields of Possibilities Charity Tournament at Rolling Oaks Park. The celebration continues through the holiday with the Legacy In Black Gala and the annual Park-In and Party. Check the City of Miami Gardens website for the final schedule of Thursday events, and see our full Juneteenth guide for the background on why this celebration matters so much here.

However you mark it, Juneteenth is a day to reflect, gather, and celebrate freedom and Black heritage in a city built by it.

Friday, June 19: USA vs. Australia

USMNT vs. Australia (World Cup Group D)

Friday, June 19 · 3:00 PM ET · FOX

Lumen Field, Seattle

The U.S. men's national team plays its second group match Friday afternoon against Australia, in Seattle. After a strong 4-1 win over Paraguay in the opener (with Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic leading the way), a result against Australia could put the USA on the brink of advancing to the knockout rounds.

The match is at 3:00 PM ET on FOX, streaming free on the FOX One and FOX Sports apps. Gather the crew, find a spot with a screen, and cheer on the home nation. The energy around the USMNT this tournament has been building, and a win Friday would send it through the roof. The U.S. closes the group against Turkey on June 25.

Saturday, June 20: Uruguayan fan party (and rest up)

Saturday is the calm before Sunday's big day, but there's one event worth flagging: the Consulate General of Uruguay is co-hosting a fan party at the Miami Beach Bandshell (7275 Collins Ave), with doors at 6:00 PM. If you're Uruguayan, married into a Uruguayan family, or just want to soak up the pre-match atmosphere before Sunday's Hard Rock showdown, this is the place. Expect sky blue everywhere, music, and the kind of passionate energy Uruguayan football fans bring to everything.

Otherwise, Saturday is a good day to handle your Father's Day plans, prep for Sunday's match, and rest. Sunday is going to be a long, hot, wonderful day.

Sunday, June 21: Father's Day AND Uruguay vs. Cape Verde at Hard Rock

Uruguay vs. Cape Verde (World Cup Group H)

Sunday, June 21 · 6:00 PM ET · FS1

Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens

Sunday is the headline. It's Father's Day, and it's also the second World Cup match in Miami Gardens: Uruguay vs. Cape Verde at Hard Rock Stadium, 6:00 PM.

This match is better than it looks on paper. Cape Verde, the 600,000-person island nation playing in its first-ever World Cup, held European champions Spain to a 0-0 draw in their opener. Uruguay, two-time world champions, drew 1-1 with Saudi Arabia. All four Group H teams have one point. Sunday's result genuinely matters for who advances. We wrote a full preview of the Cape Verde fairytale here.

What a Father's Day gift this could be: taking Dad to his first World Cup match. If you've got tickets, our match-day guide covers everything. Gates open at 3 PM. Free shuttle from Golden Glades. Empty water bottle and poncho, no umbrella. It'll be 90°F, so hydrate.

If you're celebrating Father's Day at home, the match is on FS1 at 6 PM. Fire up the grill, get Dad in his favorite chair, and stream it free on the FOX apps. The Fan Festival at Bayfront Park is also open (11 AM to 9 PM) if you want the big-screen crowd experience.

Juneteenth, the USMNT, Father's Day, and a World Cup match at Hard Rock. Four reasons to celebrate in 72 hours. Only in Miami Gardens, summer 2026.

A few reminders for the weekend

It's hot. Highs near 90°F with a heat index over 100°F and the usual afternoon thunderstorm risk. Hydrate, wear sunscreen, and keep an eye on the radar if you're outdoors. Weather guide here.

Hurricane season is active. No threats on the immediate horizon, but if you haven't finished prepping, the checklist is quick.

If you live near the stadium, Sunday afternoon brings the Clean Zone restrictions again. Run errands in the morning, keep proof of residency in your car, and plan around NW 199th Street and NW 27th Avenue.

Four celebrations, one weekend, one city. Whatever you're marking, mark it well, Miami Gardens.
