September is Suicide Prevention Month. In Miami Gardens, the community is coming together to raise awareness and remind neighbors that help and hope are always within reach.

This September, Miami Gardens is joining communities across the country to observe Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, support mental health, and remind one another that no one has to struggle alone. From a recent city awareness event to the resources available every day, here is how our community is showing up for mental health, and how you can too.

You are not aloneIf you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available right now. **Call or text 988** to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, free and confidential, 24 hours a day, or chat at 988lifeline.org. In an immediate emergency, call 911.

## September is Suicide Prevention Month
Some conversations are hard to start, but they are among the most important we can have. September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, break the silence and stigma around mental health, and remind one another of a simple truth: no one has to face their darkest moments alone.

Miami Gardens is part of that effort. The city recently held a Suicide Prevention Month Awareness Night at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, one of many ways the community is coming together to support mental health and let neighbors know that help and hope are within reach.

Reaching out is not a sign of weakness. It is one of the bravest, and most human, things any of us can do.
## Checking in on one another
One of the most powerful things any of us can do is simply check in on the people in our lives. A friend who has grown quiet, a family member going through a hard stretch, a coworker who seems overwhelmed, a genuine "how are you really doing?" can mean more than you know.

You do not need to be a counselor to help. Listen without judgment, take feelings seriously, and let people know you care and that support is available. If someone is going through a tough time, staying connected and encouraging them toward help can make a real difference. And if you are the one struggling, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

## Where to find help and support
Whether you are seeking help for yourself or supporting someone else, these resources are here for you:

**988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.** Call or text **988**, or chat at 988lifeline.org, any time, day or night, for free, confidential support from a trained counselor. **211 Miami-Dade.** Dial **211** for the free, 24/7 helpline that connects you to mental health services, counseling, and other local resources. **Local mental health providers.** Miami Gardens and Miami-Dade County have many counselors, therapists, and clinics. You can find [local mental health services in our directory](https://miamigardens.com/?select=&lp_s_loc=&lp_s_tag=&lp_s_cat=mental-health-services&s=&post_type=listing). And in an **emergency**, call 911.

## How the community can help
Suicide prevention is a shared responsibility, and small actions add up. Learn the resources so you can share them when someone needs them. Talk openly about mental health to help chip away at the stigma that keeps people silent. Support community awareness events like the ones the city hosts. And most of all, look out for one another, the way this community always has.

Mental health struggles can affect anyone, of any age or background. But with awareness, compassion, and real support, they are something we face together. This September, and all year long, let's make sure every neighbor knows they are not alone.

Reach out, anytimeIf you or someone you know needs support, call or text **988** (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or dial **211** for local Miami-Dade resources. Both are free and confidential. Find local mental health providers in our [directory](https://miamigardens.com/?select=&lp_s_loc=&lp_s_tag=&lp_s_cat=mental-health-services&s=&post_type=listing). You matter, and help is always available.
