About Hialeah Gardens

A community with deep roots and vibrant culture

Hialeah Gardens is a charming city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and part of the dynamic Miami metropolitan area. The city sprouted from humble beginnings at Walter C. Ohlerts Tourist Camp and achieved incorporation in December 1948 with 26 unanimous votes. This close-knit community has evolved from its rural beginnings into a thriving suburban city.

In its early days, Hialeah Gardens served mainly as a rural community where one of its main industries was raising horses. This pastoral character existed until 1968 when the city adopted an aggressive land use and zoning master plan to lead the growth of the city. Today, Hialeah Gardens is characterized by single-story residential development and a strong sense of community.

Hialeah Gardens has the highest percentage of Spanish speakers of any city in the United States, making it a cornerstone of Cuban and Hispanic culture in South Florida.

The city's rich Cuban heritage is evident in its culture, cuisine, and community spirit. With a predominantly Hispanic population, Hialeah Gardens offers an authentic cultural experience with vibrant traditions, delicious Cuban restaurants, and close family ties that define the neighborhood character.
