A.J. King Park Reopens: Ribbon Cutting Set for October 28 in Miami Gardens

A ribbon stretched across the entrance of a renovated neighborhood park

A.J. King Park has been closed for renovations and reopens with a ribbon cutting on October 28.

One of Miami Gardens' neighborhood parks is about to welcome residents back. The City of Miami Gardens will celebrate the reopening of A.J. King Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 28. Here is what to know about the event and the woman the park is named for.

Ribbon cutting details

When: Wednesday, October 28, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to noon. Where: A.J. King Park, 4250 NW 178th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33055. Questions: Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation, 305-622-8080.

A neighborhood park, renovated

A.J. King Park has been closed for renovations, and the city lists it among the parks projects funded by its General Obligation Bond, the voter-approved bond program for park improvements and public safety upgrades. The 5.6-acre park has long been a hub for nearby families, with a baseball field, a multi-purpose field, a playground, a meeting room, a computer lab, and restrooms. The city has also used it for day camps and out-of-school programs.

The city has not yet published a full list of what is new, so the ribbon cutting will be the first chance for many residents to see the upgrades. We will update this post with details after the ceremony.

A renovated park is more than new equipment. It is a place for kids to play and neighbors to gather, right around the corner.

Who was A.J. King?

The park honors Audrey J. King, one of the original members of the Miami Gardens City Council when the city incorporated in 2003. Before that, she served on the Miami-Dade County Community Council for Area 3 from 1996 to 2000 and was a member of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP. She died on September 30, 2005. A year later, in 2006, the City Council renamed what had been Carol Park in her honor.

Part of a bigger investment in parks

The A.J. King Park reopening comes during a busy stretch for Miami Gardens parks. Scott Park opened earlier this year, and ground was recently broken on a World Cup legacy soccer field at Walt Frazier Park in Carol City. Read about the Walt Frazier Park legacy pitch.
