It's here. The World Cup kicked off Wednesday in Mexico City, and after three days of football, the tournament has fully taken over South Florida. The Fan Festival at Bayfront Park is packed. Wynwood is a sea of jerseys. And in just two days, the first match arrives at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Here's everything happening this weekend.
What's happened so far
Mexico won the opener. The host nation beat South Africa 2-0 at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday, the first time Mexico has ever won on the opening day of a World Cup. Shakira, J Balvin, and Alejandro Fernandez performed at the opening ceremony.
The USA dominated Paraguay 4-1. In their opener last night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the U.S. Men's National Team rolled. Folarin Balogun grabbed an early lead in the race for the Golden Boot. Christian Pulisic and the squad looked sharp. The USA next plays Australia on June 19.
Canada came back to draw Bosnia. Larin rescued a point for the co-hosts in Toronto.
The tournament is delivering. And the biggest matches for Miami Gardens are still ahead.
