School ended yesterday. The World Cup starts June 15. Juneteenth is Saturday. Summer in Miami Gardens has never been this packed.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools closed for the year yesterday. If you're a parent in Miami Gardens staring at 10 weeks of "what do I do with the kids," here's the good news: this is going to be the most eventful summer your family has ever experienced in this city. The [World Cup](/world-cup-2026-miami-gardens-guide/) starts in 11 days. The [Juneteenth celebration](/juneteenth-miami-gardens-2026/) starts Saturday. And the city's parks and recreation programs are running all summer. Here's the quick guide.

## This week and next

**Saturday, June 6: Juneteenth Charity Tournament** at Rolling Oaks Park (3220 NW 199th Street). 8 AM to 3 PM. Free for spectators. Teams compete on behalf of local charities. Food vendors on-site. Bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and water. This is one of the best free family days on the Miami Gardens calendar. [Full Juneteenth guide here.](/juneteenth-miami-gardens-2026/)

**Saturday, June 6: Free Hurricane Supplies** at four South Florida locations. Details at [miamidade.gov/emergency](https://www.miamidade.gov/global/emergency/home.page). Grab water, batteries, and first aid kits before heading to Rolling Oaks. [Full Saturday plan here.](/june-6-saturday-plan/)

**Friday, June 13: FIFA Fan Festival opens** at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami. Free entry. Giant screens showing every match, live entertainment, food vendors. Runs daily through July 5. This is the best free World Cup experience for families who don't have match tickets. Up to 30,000 fans daily.

**Sunday, June 15: First World Cup match in Miami Gardens.** Saudi Arabia vs. Uruguay, 6 PM. Even if you're not going to the stadium, the atmosphere around the city will be electric. [Watch from home or a local restaurant for free on FOX.](/how-to-watch-world-cup-2026/)

**Rolling Oaks Park** (3220 NW 199th Street) has open athletic fields, playground equipment, a walking trail, and pavilion rentals. Free to visit anytime during park hours.

## The World Cup as a family experience

You don't need a $330+ ticket to give your kids a World Cup summer. Here's how to make it part of the family experience without breaking the budget:

**Watch every match for free.** All 104 games air on FOX and FS1, streaming free on the FOX One app. No cable required. [Full TV guide here.](/how-to-watch-world-cup-2026/)

**Pick a team.** Let each kid choose a country to follow. Track their matches together. Learn about the country on a map. Cook a dish from that nation. The World Cup is a geography lesson, a cultural experience, and a sports event wrapped into one.

**Visit the Fan Festival.** Bayfront Park, downtown Miami, June 13 through July 5. Free. Giant screens, live music, interactive experiences. Take the Metrorail to Government Center. This is the best free day trip of the summer for families.

**Walk the stadium neighborhood on match days.** Even without a ticket, the streets around Hard Rock Stadium buzz with energy on match days. International fans in colorful jerseys, music, food vendors. It's a block party that spans the neighborhood. Keep an eye on [the weather](/world-cup-miami-weather-guide/), bring water, and enjoy the atmosphere.

**For the budget-conscious:** The total cost of a World Cup summer for a family of four, without buying a single match ticket: $0. Watch on FOX (free), visit the Fan Festival (free), attend the Juneteenth tournament (free), use the parks (free), join the library reading program (free). The most expensive summer in the city's history can also be the most affordable if you know where to look.
